Holiday Photo Color Palettes for Coordinating Family Outfits

Holiday Wreath, Vest, mittens

I love taking family photos. I think I am gonna love it even more once our baby girl arrives. However, one thing I hate? Trying to coordinate family outfits. Besides being complicated and time consuming, it can also be costly.

Today, I have put together a list of sample color palettes I love for Holiday photos, but I also wanna give a few tips for saving money. After all, this time of year can be financially difficult for many families.

The Holiday Photo Color Palettes

Royal Blue, Mustard, Grey, and Cornflower Blue

This isn’t your typical Holiday green and red. In fact, neither of those are found here.

This is such an easy color combo to put together and perfect for families with lots of boys who aren’t fans of pink and purple. Blue is in a majority of closets as is grey.

One question though, when did Mustard become such a popular outfit color and not just a popular hot dog and sandwich condiment? I’m not sure, but I love it. So much so that I recently discovered I owned 2 cardigans of this color. OOOPs. Don’t tell my husband.

Another great thing about this color combo is that it can also be used for Fall photos.

Hibiscus, White, Taffy Pink, and Oat

As a girl mom, I think this one might be my personal favorite. I love the way this light pink pairs with the deeper almost red hibiscus. I think the oat and white balance out all the pink.

Aqua, Violet, White, and Grey

Like Mustard, Aqua is another color that popped up over the years and never left. I am perfectly fine with that. It is such a pretty winter, summer, all seasons color. Normally, I see this color a lot in Spring/ Easter photos, but its like the color of ice, so I think it fits. And the way it pairs with the deep violet is stunning.

Sea Green, Violet, Grey, and Lilac

This one gives me all the mermaid vibes. That being said I still think this could be a great Holiday color combo. The lilac and violet really balance each other out, while the sea green adds a pop of something different.

Emerald Green, Blush Pink, Grey, and Burgundy

Okay, okay I know I said number 2 was probably my favorite. But can I have 2 favorites? Please? Pretty Please? Because this one gives me all the Holiday feels. I am talking lets watch some Christmas movies, decorate a tree, bake cookies, drink cocoa. ALL THE HOLIDAY THINGS. It is traditional but with a cute little pop of blush pink.

The first time I saw a color combo similar to this was at a Winter Wedding. I remember thinking how elegant and sweet it looked. This particular color palette for Holiday photos is for someone looking to go the more traditional route, but wanting a little extra.

A few money saving tips

  • Don’t immediately run out to buy everyone new outfits for the photo shoot. Check all the closets and see what you can put together first.
  • If you are buying new clothes, try to find something that can be worn again or a piece of clothing that can be put with something already owned.
  • Get a quote from the photographer on how much it will be and what is included a few months in advance. From there, try to add it to the budget and save for the payment for several months so that you aren’t paying a large amount from your budget in one go.
